Subject: Clarification – Appointment under 17A
Reference your letter No. ADC(R)EA/1498 dated 30.07.2024 on the subject noted above.
The Regulations Wing, S&GAD has examined the matter and it is observed that since Rule 17-A of the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974 has been omitted after approval of the Provincial Cabinet Punjab, hence, no question arises for making appointment under Rule 17-A of the rules ibid.

- It is submitted that vide Notification No.SOR-III(S&GAD)2-60/2024, dated 24.07.2024 issued by Government of the Punjab, Service & General Administration Department (copy enclosed) in which following amendment has been made in the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974:-
“In the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1974, Rule 17-A shall be omitted.”
- It is requested that this office may kindly be guided/advised whether this amendment is applicable to cases issued before this notification or otherwise.
