Special Allowance to Commissioners & DCO dt 14.11.2009
In a significant update to the remuneration packages for key administrative positions, the Punjab Government has sanctioned enhanced allowances for Commissioners and District Coordination Officers (DCOs) as of July 1, 2009. This move aims to recognize the critical roles played by these officials in managing administrative functions and development projects across the region.
Key Enhancements in Allowances:
- Monthly Allowance for Commissioners: All Commissioners will now receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 50,000. This increase reflects the vital responsibilities and challenges associated with their roles in overseeing large districts and implementing government policies.
- Revised Project Allowance for DCOs: The Project Allowance for District Coordination Officers (DCOs), previously set at Rs. 25,000 per month, has been revised upward to Rs. 30,000 per month. This adjustment acknowledges the expanding scope of work and additional responsibilities that DCOs manage in coordinating district-level projects and ensuring smooth administrative operations.
- Special Monthly Allowance for Deputy District Officers (Revenue): A new special monthly allowance of Rs. 20,000 has been introduced for Deputy District Officers (Revenue). This allowance is designed to support the Deputy District Officers in their crucial role of managing revenue collection and administration at the district level.
Implementation and Scope:
The revised allowances will be applicable as follows:
- Commissioners: 9 positions across various districts will benefit from the enhanced Rs. 50,000 monthly allowance.
- District Coordination Officers (DCOs): 36 DCOs will receive the updated Rs. 30,000 Project Allowance.
- Deputy District Officers (Revenue): 133 officers will be granted the new Rs. 20,000 monthly allowance.
It is important to note that these allowances are position-specific and will not extend across the entire cadre. The allowances will be applicable only to the currently serving officers in these specific roles. Upon transfer or change of assignment, the respective allowances will cease to be applicable to the incumbents.
Administrative Impact and Transition:
The implementation of these allowances is expected to have a notable impact on administrative efficiency and morale among the officials. The increase in allowances underscores the government’s commitment to adequately compensate the officials responsible for crucial administrative and developmental functions.
For administrative purposes, the enhanced allowances will be incorporated into the monthly payroll of the eligible officers effective from July 1, 2009. Departments and relevant offices are instructed to ensure smooth transition and accurate disbursement of these allowances in compliance with the new directives.
In summary, the enhanced allowances for Commissioners, DCOs, and Deputy District Officers reflect a strategic move by the Punjab Government to better support and reward its senior administrative personnel. By increasing financial support for these key roles, the government aims to foster improved governance and operational efficiency across the region.
